Day 1:

  • After breakfast depart Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park
In this part of the park, both large and small mammals , especially the tree-climbing lions, can be seen along with a diversity of vegetation.  Giant termite hills are found in this park; some measuring 10 metres high.  The lake is a fresh water body on the inlet, but most of the remainder of the lake is alkaline waters, providing a habitat to white pelicans, sacred ibis, yellow-billed storks, greater and lesser flamingos, and more.  Most of the water channels from the Ngorongoro highlands down through the rift escarpment to the lake.  Some of the water comes from the Ngorongoro highlands down through the rift escarpment to the lake.  Some of the water comes from the hot springs found in the park, which are dry during some parts of the year.
  • Picnic lunch at the park
Two picnic sites are available, one situated on the shores of Lake Manyara and another nearby situated on top of a hill with a remarkable view of the lake and the escarpment.
  • Afternoon game drive at the park
Our afternoon tour of Lake Manyara covers the remainder of the park, where troops of baboons can be spotted.  A troop size can have as many as  forty members, including both sexes, adults, sub-adults, and juveniles.  Vervet monkeys are also a nice sight.  There are also elephants in this park, as well as the hard to spot leopards.  Dik diks, which are normally not daily drinkers, can be found here during the drier parts of the year.
  • Drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2:

  • After breakfast, transfer to Ngorongoro Crater for a full day crater tour.

  • Picnic Lunch at the crater floor (BEWARE of Black Kites snatching your lunch)
The crater hosts an estimate 30,000 animals on its floor, including large herds of cape buffalo, wildebeests, eland, hartebeest, elephant, hippo, lions, and the endangered black rhino.
  • Dinner and overnight at the lodge
The campsite is located on the crater rim, 2200 Metres above sea level.  It is very cold and humid during the evenings and mornings.  You are advised to take a warm jacket.  There are some animals found here; bush pigs, hyenas, zebras, and cape buffalo, so please refrain from loud noises or conversation.

Day 3:
  • Morning tour of the Crater Floor
Home of the Big 5, the cape buffalo, the elephant, the lion, the black rhino, and the cheetah.  In this incredible crater, a huge collapsed volcano provides a Garden of Eden for thousands of animals.  There are Maasai warriors that still herd cattle inside the crater, because they have traditional grazing rights within this protected area.

  • Drive back to Arusha for overnight
  • End of Safari
